Play Therapy for Children

There is nothing worse than watching your child struggle through life…barely squeaking by in school, refusing to leave their room, or causing problems at school. As a parent, you feel powerless when all you want in the world is to take away their suffering. A strong relationship with you is the most important factor in your child’s mental health, but sometimes calling in professional help is needed. I work with parents to strengthen their relationship with their child through parent coaching while treating the child. This systemic approach accelerates improvement. Before you know it, you will be watching your child thrive instead of struggle.

I use Play Therapy to engage with children. Play is a child’s first language and it is the most effective way for a child to express emotions, process trauma, and work through problems. I have experience working with children who suffer from ADHD, depression, anxiety, ODD, and trauma disorders.

Therapy for Adolescents

Feeling disconnected from your teen? Frustrated about choices they are making? Confused about why your teen is suddenly irritable and talking back? Adolescence is a tumultuous time for the entire family. It is often difficult for parents to make sense of their teens’ behavior and understand what is happening. Underneath this layer of irritability, isolation, and rebellion can be depression, anxiety, or another mental health issue. Improving your teen’s mental health can alleviate some of these stressors and lead to a more peaceful household. When working with your teen, I will also speak with you weekly to provide parent coaching.

I have experience supporting adolescents suffering from depression, anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, and more.

School Coordination

Feeling like your child’s school just doesn’t “get it” and that when you voice your concerns the school does not take action? Unfortunately this is the experience of many parents with children who have learning differences or are struggling with symptoms of mental illness. I have experience in navigating the school culture and am practiced in how to talk to teachers about mental health. I will advocate for your child to get them the support they need. This is especially helpful for children/adolescents with ADHD and anxiety because symptoms show up in the classroom frequently. My advocacy may include suggesting classroom (or distance learning) accommodations and providing information to teachers about your child’s diagnosis. I am available to participate in SST, 504, and IEP meetings.
