Meet Joe

Hey! I’m glad you’re here. If I’m the right fit for you I’d love to accompany you on your journey.

I specialize in helping people navigate life’s transitions, whether it’s a change in career, a shift in relationships, or navigating the complexities of ADHD/ADD.

I know how overwhelming life can feel when things don’t seem to go according to plan. My approach is all about creating stability and clarity, especially during those chaotic times. I’ve worked with clients in all kinds of situations—from substance abuse to trauma—and I understand how environmental factors can shape mental health. I help clients give voice to the different parts of themselves, using tools like parts work and Gestalt therapy, which helps bring those different sides into alignment.

What excites me most about working with ADHD is how individuals with ADHD often approach life in non-linear ways—finding creativity and vision in what others may see as disorganization or unpredictability. I admire that energy and I work with my clients to embrace those unique strengths, using them as a tool to navigate life’s transitions with more clarity. If you're ready to embrace your unique way of thinking and start moving forward with confidence, I’m here to help.

Helping You Navigate Life’s Transitions with Stability and Insight

At 26, I found myself stuck in a desk job, feeling uninspired and disconnected from a career that didn’t bring me joy. It wasn’t until I met several people pursuing their master's degrees in clinical mental health counseling that I even considered the field. Their passion and purpose sparked something in me. After some research, I enrolled in the M.Ed. program at Kent State University. Fast forward 3.5 years, and I became licensed in Ohio, and I’m now in the process of becoming registered in California.

What drew me to this field was my desire to be a stable source of support for others during difficult transitions. Helping people navigate the most challenging phases of their lives, and guiding them toward clarity and strength, has become my passion.

I take a humanistic approach to therapy, combining person-centered, psychodynamic, DBT, and Gestalt therapy parts work. This blend helps clients give voice to the different parts of themselves, fostering deeper self-understanding and healing. I believe integrating these diverse aspects leads to a stronger sense of wholeness, direction, and fulfillment.

My internship at Wellmore Centre, a dual-diagnosis clinic in Appalachian Ohio, was pivotal in shaping my approach as a therapist. Working with individuals facing addiction, poverty, homelessness, and court-mandated treatment provided invaluable insights into how environmental factors deeply affect mental health. Though my primary focus isn't addiction counseling, this experience significantly influenced my therapeutic approach, expanding my understanding of mental health.

For me, there’s nothing more rewarding than witnessing a client’s breakthrough moment—their eyes lighting up when they make a meaningful realization. These moments of clarity are what inspire me to continue my work with clients.

I am passionate about working with individuals who are navigating life transitions, whether it's a career change, the loss of a relationship, a shift in identity, or exploring a new diagnosis. During these transitions, I offer the warmth, stability, and direction that can help turn uncertainty into a pathway for growth. Whether you’re dealing with trauma, anxiety, ADHD/ADD, bipolar disorder, or relational instability, I am here to help you regain balance and move forward with confidence.

A bit of inspiration I always come back to during my work are the words of Theodore Roethke: “I learn by going where I have to go.” They remind me that life doesn’t always come with a clear roadmap. We transform not by studying the world from a distance, but by engaging with it—allowing ourselves to be changed in the process. This philosophy guides my work with clients—embracing life’s uncertainty while recognizing the potential for growth it offers.

I am excited to work for Brilla Counseling because I deeply admire the non-linear, creative ways many individuals with ADHD navigate life and am excited to serve this population. Their ability to embrace difference and turn it into vision and purpose is inspiring. I believe this unique approach opens up new possibilities for growth, creativity, and success.
